The financial system implemented at the educational institution and NPO organization where I was employed was originally made to replace the MSAccess-like system created with the software "TheCard", which has long since been abandoned by the original company.
The system was completely rewritten from scratch using FileMaker 12. After months of planning and research into how the old system worked, I was able to recreate the base functionality, fix previously broken issues and implement new user features and shortcuts to ease regular operations. In addition to tracking customers, their registered programs and payment information, summary and scheduling information was introduced as well as a more streamlined interface for faster data input and manipulation. A log feature and user accounts were introduced to help with logging and to track changes. Remote access functionality and automatic backups were soon implemented. Mobile access was also implemented to allow for perusal of records by staff that rarely spend time in the main office due to their schedule. The system was moved to a 3rd party hosting provider to allow for access from any of the office locations. The previous system had been a single-user model despite a clear need for multiple user access. |
